Using Social Media to Help Plan Trips

Social Media to Plan Trips

For planning a vacation, there are a lot of different ways you can go about to try and do this to help make sure that you have the best trip possible. One popular trend that more and more people seem to be doing to help plan their vacations is using social media sites. For my own vacations, I have never actually done this before, but for this post, I thought I would do some tests to see if it would actually be useful to use some of these social sites and the results I must admit were quite good. If you are in the process of planning a trip and want to maybe try using social media sites to help plan it, these are some things that you can try to do.

One of the great things about using sites like Facebook and Twitter is the fact that you can get recommendations from people you have connections with, so you should be able to trust them more. For one of my tests that I did, I went on to Facebook and asked for recommendations on activities to tryout for a vacation to the Bahamas and was able to get four responses from people I know that have visited the Bahamas before with things that they enjoyed doing. Personally I think this is a great source of information, because not only can you get quality recommendations for your trip but you can also have a back and forth dialogue about the destination if you want to.

Another great social tool that you can try to use for planning your trip is Instagram. Instagram may not be as well known as Facebook and Twitter, but it is a great way to see photos of places from people that have actually been there. What you can do is download the Instagram app to your phone and then go to the search section. From there you can go to the hashtags part and enter in the place you want to look up. Usually there are a lot of great quality photos to look at that allow you to experience this place through the eyes of other people that have visited.

A third social tool that you can consider using to help you plan your trip is using one of the many travel social networks. One of the bigger ones is GoGobot, where people signup and share their past travel experiences. This is really a great tool that allows you to see what others did on their vacation at a particular destination as well as seeing places they enjoyed as well as others they didn’t. There are a lot of sites that offer these types of reviews, the thing with them though is that you have to take the reviews with a grain of salt as you don’t know who is actually leaving them. It could be someone who has completely different travel tastes as compared to you or possibly people that have never actually visited the destination.

Social media sites have become great tools for planning a vacation and may be something you should consider for your next trip.
