Water Based Activities
If you’ve never surfed, definitely book a group surfing lesson at the iconic Waikiki Beach. Alternatively, you may be interested in stand up paddle boarding, paddling in a traditional outrigger canoe or booking a snorkeling tour at Hanauma Bay. The latter of which is teeming with tropical fish and sea turtles. If you’re looking to add a unique experience to your itinerary, you can even board an Atlantis submarine, which will then dive to below 100 feet below surface level.
Land Based Activities
If you’re a huge movie fan, make sure to book a day tour to the Kuloa Ranch, where a plethora of films and television shows have been filmed. Examples of which include Lost, Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, Godzilla, Hawaii 50 and 50 First Dates. Whilst at Kuloa Ranch you can ride four by fours, explore the property on horseback, take a sailing trip and sample fresh fruit from the properties tropical orchard.
Definitely visit the Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu’s stunning North Shore, as you’ll have the opportunity to learn about traditional Hawaiian culture as well as the cultures of some of the Pacific’s other island nations, including Samoa, Tonga and Fiji. Whilst at the center you’ll get to walk through villages which represent each island nation and will get to try your hand at a variety of traditional activities, such as weaving crafts, dancing and throwing spears. Each night the center also puts on a luau and a cultural show.
Hawaii offers a variety of accommodation options, which range from inexpensive backpackers which cater to younger clientele to luxurious four and five star resorts, which back straight on to stunning beaches. If you’re looking for luxury accommodation in Waikiki, you may be interested in staying at the Royal Hawaiian, which is nestled amongst a tropical beachside garden and offers decades of history.
If you’re based in Waikiki, make sure to visit the Royal Hawaiian Center and Ala Moana Center, both of which are world class malls. Better yet, each center offers free hula performances, with the Royal Hawaiian Center also offering classes on how to play the ukulele, craft paper flowers and dance the hula.
