Tips for First Time Travelers to the Caribbean

First Time Travelers to Caribbean

We’ve talked quite a few times before about popular spots for a beach vacation. From the Riviera Maya to Hawaii, there are a lot of great spots around the world where you can getaway and enjoy a great vacation in a tropical setting. For me, one of my favorite places to travel is the Caribbean. With so many great islands like Jamaica and the Bahamas, the Caribbean will surely offer you something that matches your taste for what you want out of your trip. For those who have never traveled to the Caribbean and wanted some tips, here are somethings that I would recommend for first time travelers.

Some of the biggest perks with taking a vacation in the Caribbean is the great weather and beaches. With this a lot of vacationers enjoy spending a lot of their time laying out catching some sun as well as taking a swim in the ocean or resort pool. For first time travelers to the Caribbean, I always recommend getting out of your comfort zone and trying something new. The great thing about a majority of the Caribbean islands is the fact that there are so many different activities to tryout. From things like zip lining to going hiking in some of the most lush tropical rain forests, there are certainly a lot of things to do while on your vacation. Another thing that you can try to do to help get you out of your comfort zone is trying out some of the street food. I know there are a lot of people, including myself when I first visited, who might be afraid to do this but I must admit the food is usually amazing.

Another thing that you should try to do when visiting for the first time is respecting the local culture in the area. Some islands are different as compared to others but it is important that you don’t offend anyone while visiting and give the locals a positive impression of people from where you live. What you can do is look online to see what are some do’s and dont’s when visiting a particular island but manners are universal so you should already know things that you shouldn’t be doing.

While on vacation in the Caribbean, you can also try to bargain to get a better price on certain things. Whether it being a cab ride or shopping at a local vendors store, you can usually bargain with them to see if you can get a good price on certain things. I know some people are embarrassed to maybe do this but if you want to get a better deal, you can try this. When doing this though, don’t go so low that you offend the vendor. Yes you want to get the best deal but remember that these people are doing this to make a living and what seems like little to you might mean a lot to them.

When planning your trip to the Caribbean, don’t just go for the cookie cutter packages that aren’t really tailored to your interest and instead try to book a trip that allows you to do the things you want to do. Like I have said before, when vacationing in the Caribbean there are so many things to do, the key is figuring out what you want to do on vacation. What I like to do is sit down and figure out the things that are a must do for the trip and then start planning from there.

The Caribbean is a great spot for a vacation and usually for first time travelers, they want to visit soon again after their trip ends.
