Top Beaches in Hawaii to Visit

Top Beaches Hawaii

For those that are able to take a vacation to Hawaii, one of the things that they enjoy doing is checking out some of the many great beaches that the Hawaiian Islands have to offer. Hawaii is home to many different islands with the main ones including Oahu, Maui, Kauai, the Big Island, Lanai and Molokai. I have had the chance to visit 5 of these islands and must admit that they all offer great beaches to visit. For which island has the best beaches, well this is debatable as each island offers something different but if I had to chose one it would be Oahu. Oahu is the main Hawaiian Island home to the state capitol of Honolulu. If you plan on visiting Oahu sometime soon, I recommend checking out these beaches while on vacation.

One of my favorite beaches on Oahu is Hanauma Bay. Located on the East Side of the island, it is about a 20 minute drive if you are coming from Waikiki. Hanauma Bay is basically a cove with a small strip of beach area that is not only popular with tourists but also locals. One of the main attractions for Hanauma Bay is the fact that you can swim with thousands of tropical fishes that are right off the shore of the beach. The last time I was there I was able to swim with so many different types of fish and it was absolutely amazing. If you do plan on visiting Hanauma Bay, I recommend getting their early especially if you’re traveling during the busy season like Summer as the parking lot can get full quickly. If you’re unable to get parking at Hanauma Bay, you will most likely have to park in a residential area that is about a mile away with most of the walk being uphill.

Another popular beach to checkout while visiting Oahu is the world famous Waikiki Beach. This is most likely one of the most famous beaches in the world made popular by TV shows and movies. What I love about Waikiki is the fact that it’s usually close to your hotel and has amazing views of Diamond Head. The only negative that I see with Waikiki is the fact that it is always so crowded since there are so many hotels located in the area with everyone wanting to spend the day at the beach. Again, if you travel during the busy season there is a good chance that you’ll have others right next to you as space is limited.

A third beach on Oahu that I enjoy visiting is the North Shore. North Shore is a surfers paradise with some of the biggest waves in the world showing up every Winter. I was able to visit a couple years back during the Winter and wanted to checkout the North Shore so I won’t early as I heard it gets really crowded. When I got there, I was amazed by the size and power of the waves. If you aren’t an experienced surfer, I recommend not trying to surf these waves as many others have gotten seriously injured before. Another spot that I visited on the North Shore that was pretty cool was Turtle Beach. Here you will sometimes find giant sea turtles lying on the sand just enjoying the beautiful tropical weather of Hawaii.

A fourth spot that might have the most amazing views and scenery in Hawaii is Lanikai Beach. Considered one of the best beaches for swimming, this picturesque spot has some of the softest sand to walk on and the water is crystal blue. While here, you can try some of the many water sport activities like canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing as well as other things. One thing that I did while visiting was kayaking to small island off shore. I will admit that the next day my arms were hurting from this but it really was a fun little adventure. Parking here is limited so once again it is best to get here early.

These are some of my favorite beaches in Hawaii to visit. The great thing about Hawaii though is that almost all beaches are amazing so no matter where you decide to go, you’ll most likely have a great time.
