Traveloni Agent Review
The Riu Palace Punta Cana is a great resort to consider for your vacation in the Dominican Republic as it has all the amenities you could ask for. The resort is about 30 minutes from the airport and is on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. You don’t need a palapa when there are natural palm trees for shade and the beach is so wide and long that you will never have a problem finding a chair to lounge on. We were recently there the week after Christmas, which is one of the busiest weeks of the year, and found 6 beach chairs together everyday. That doesn’t happen on many beaches! The pool however is busier and chairs are less available.
The lobby and public areas at the Riu Palace Punta Cana Resort are just as wonderful and fancy. Riu puts lots of money into the lobby and public areas and gives the resort a feeling elegance. The Riu properties recently changed their policy on Wifi, so you are allowed free Wifi in the lobby for 90 minutes per day, per user. This makes connections around 5pm very inconsistent because most vacationers are done with the beach and the pool but are not ready for dinner. With everyone trying to check their email, it can slow down the connection so I would suggest you trying around lunchtime as the connections seem to be much better than.
The food at the Riu Palace Punta Cana is some of the best I’ve ever had! My family especially loved the buffet with there being a lot food options. Seating here was never a problem, we never had to wait.
On New Year’s Eve the resort had a big party in the buffet including festive hats and noisemakers. If you plan at dining at one of the specialty restaurants, you better make your reservations early as they are hard to get just like at most of the other Riu Resorts. When trying to make reservations, just take whatever they can give you for a reservation, then show up at the restaurant when they open and they will usually allow you to eat when you want…a $5 bill can also go along way in getting your reservation changed!
The pool is another great spot to checkout at the Riu Palace Punta Cana Resort. The chairs can be limited during busy season and many people get out early and put their towels down to save the best seats. The pool has loud music and lots of activity, including a swim up bar . Pool volleyball and basketball happen at different times during the day and bingo starts at 3pm. For my family, we prefered the beach volleyball but still had fun shooting hoops as well!
This is a great family resort with lots of activities and an amazing beach to get some sun. If you are thinking about visiting Punta Cana for a vacation, I highly recommend considering the Riu Palace Punta Cana!

Highly recommend tis resort!
The room was and suite and was all that we needed! King size bed , private sitting area, two sink bath with a jacuzzi in the tube. TV with US stations.
Only one main pool with a swim up swim bar...very accomidating.
The beach is why we go! The water crystal clear, small waves and many palm trees to reader tan under with bar service on the beach!
The help that work there are the reason we went back for a,second time. Kayaking and Hobie cats to sail were all included.
The food was excellent in the buffets but the specialties of the restaurants at night make it worth while.
The nightly shows are okay but if you plahard all day well... The bed looks and feels quite inviting!
Why leave paradise!
Tips: Come expecting to be waited on,pampered and leave rested!

The flights were without incident, but the luggage got pretty beat up. Also, the language barrier was a little bit of a problem, but we had already been aware of this, so it was no big surprise. The surf on this side of the island is kind of rough, but still fun.
Not enough bathrooms close to the pool or the beach. Where do they expect everyone to "go" ???
Another funny thing is that we stain a RIU resort in Mexico that was laid out so similar that we knew where the restaurants and some of the bathrooms would be! (It was a little too similar in my opinion)
The room was very clean. The bed was comfortable. Water pressure and temperature in the shower was constantly changing as you took a shower. The refrigerator in our room was not working, reported it to the desk, they tried to fix it, but the temperature was not cold enough. I will say, the rooms were surprisingly quiet at night.
The pools were very pretty, but we mostly used the beach.
The beaches were very clean. Plenty of chairs available. The only complaint was a few too many palm trees which made it hard to be in the sun. Bar waiters were very friendly on the beach and were readily available with drinks. We were there when it was fairly windy, so the waves were kind of rough. The catamarans were great too. A few venders were allowed on the beach, but weren't too pushy.
Not enough music! We wanted to hear "island" music to get us into the vacation mood & it was really only available in the courtyard right before the main stage's act opened. I don't thing we were the only ones who felt this way because there were a lot of people who danced when the music was available. Why not play some during the day on the beach and again after the stage show? You know, I'm not too sure what the Punta Cana's music is like even now.
It was so nice to have so many restaurants to choose from. We were there for a week and only had the supper buffet once. On a whole, we were happy with the food, but after a few days our stomachs weren't too happy (many trips to the bathroom) and we still don't know why.
Like I said before, we wished there was more island music to dance to at night. The stage shows were ok but kind of the same thing night after night. I'd rather "do" then watch. After the stage show was done, we usually ended up in the sports bar where we plapool. Not really a lot to do later at night. There was a casino and disco nearby, but heard from others it wasn't worth it and too loud.
We went on the Outback Safari. It was definitely interesting and well worth the time and money. George, our guide, made it a lot of fun and shared a lot of interesting facts of the island with us. I really believe he made our experience better!
Also, went deep-sea fishing, which was amazing. Missed a huge blue marlin, but our group caught 3 mahi-mahis, which we then took back to the steakhouse and asked them to cook up - which they were glad to do for us.
Tips: If you do excursions or leave the hotel by bus, be sure to ask how long it will take to get where you're going. It seemed to me that it took double the time because they stop at other hotels to pick up more guests and it just becomes kind of irritating.
