Occidental Grand Cozumel Review Janice S., Neenah, Wisconsin March 19, 2013 Resort Overall :  Because the weather was absolutely perfect, we could overlook any shortcomings with the resort. Had the weather been a problem, this is not a resort I would have been very happy being stuck inside in. Room :  Room and bathroom were very spacious and clean. We wanted a room with a king size bed but the only availability was a room with 2 double beds. Mattresses were on the hard side - we are used to the Sleep Number bed so my husband often woke up with a backache. The building we were in was in a perfect location - close to pools and beach and not far to get to the main building with lobby, bar and restaurants. We had a room on the first floor and there was musty smell that we were able to alleviate by not running the air conditioner and airing out the room by opening the patio door and the bathroom window. Maid service was excellent, but not sure why they only provided 1 washcloth. Pools :  Pool water temperatures were cold. The bar at the relaxation pool was never open. We have been at resorts with swim up bars and that would have been a nice feature. Staff did a great job keeping pool areas clean. Beach :  The beach was great!!! Staff did an awesome job of cleaning debris away. There is room for more chairs which would be nice as certain Canadians would remove your towels and take your chairs and then pretend they didn't know what you were saying. We walked the beach in both directions and none of the resorts on either side of the Occidental Grand kept their beach as nice as this one. Resort Activities :  We enjothe kayaks, playing pool volleyball and watching other activities. The ladies in our group enjopainting pottery on the beach so we thought it was great that the Occidental Grand allowed that type of business on their beach. The pottery shop owner did a super job "embellishing" our pottery and the prices were very reasonable. Restaurants and Bars :  Unfortunately the buffet food wasn't the best. It was warm at best and the meat, except for the fish and baked chicken, was tough. The best breakfast buffet item was the made to order omelet as you could count on it being fresh and hot. The best lunch buffet items were the "grilled as you wait" hamburgers and hot dogs. We enjoour meals at the reservation restaurants. Other guests had told us to avoid the ribeye at the steak house. I had the coconut shrimp and it was very good. Nightlife :  The main bar isn't that big and the disco is small and way too loud. The shows were entertaining, but not what you'd rate as high quality. Excursions :  We went on the 3 reef snorkeling tour. The guides were very polite and friendly and attentive. We saw sea turtles, sting rays and a multitude of fish. I've snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef so nothing can compare to that experience. We went on a jeep adventure tour which was lots of fun - snorkeling, tequila tour, Mayan ruins, jumping in the waves at a beach on the other side of the island and a visit to a protected area with alligators and a lighthouse. My husband and I recommend climbing the lighthouse as the views are amazing!

Occidental Grand Cozumel Review Jeff C., Spring, Texas April 5, 2012 Resort Overall :  Hotel was nice as expected the only issue we had with the stay was a concierge" had their recruiting and information desk right outside of the door to our room and was awkward for my wife and I to have to pass this guy everytime we went in and out of the room. " Room :  Pools :  Beach :  Resort Activities :  Restaurants and Bars :  Nightlife :  Excursions :  Tips: go eat down town... like all resorts, the food is good but you just can't compare to local cuisine.
