If you’re looking for the best nightlife in all the Hawaiian Islands, Oahu is the answer. Honolulu is located here, and you’ll find all the huge resort chains, delicious foods, great clubs and tons of ways to enjoy yourself. If you’re willing to drive fifteen minutes outside of town, you’ll find a country atmosphere with tons of little farms and plantations where you can take tours and eat stuff straight off the tree! If this kind of eco-tourism doesn’t sound like fun (not everyone is a foodie!) you can always hit the excellent beaches! The famous Waikiki beach is here, and the coral reef is closest to this island. Take a horseback ride down the beach at sunset or sunrise and watch the sun appear or disappear over the horizon. Go out and snorkel along the kaleidoscopic reefs, and surf the big waves. Whatever you’ve wanted to don an island vacation, you can do it here on Oahu. Enjoy yourself here, and the island will treat you well!
Eat and Feast
Eating on Oahu ranges from little noodle shacks along the beach (seifu) to world class restaurants. Depending on how much you want to spend, you’ll want to hit different parts of the island. For the best but priciest food, check out the resort hotels and downtown Honolulu. You can find a mixed bag in Waikiki beach; there are plenty of open air grills here where you can bring in your fish from a fishing trip, or you can just dine on fresh crab and Mahi-Mahi. There are dinner cruises that you can take around sunset, and there’s also a few drinking cruises that run for about three hours where you can drink and party all the way out and back. There are always the great plantation tours you can take to eat fresh pineapples, mangoes and coconuts straight from the plant. Check out the rotating hotel in downtown Honolulu where you can eat in one of the last remaining rotating restaurants, dining on fresh sushi and eating inventive desserts.
Have Fun
You can enjoy a luau with fire dancers and breathers; or go and explore all the shows in the resorts at Waikiki beach and Honolulu. If you want to enjoy the sea, go on a dolphin excursion; these let you swim out in the open water with real live dolphins for a half hour, and it’s a real magical experience. You will also want to check out the beautiful beaches here which can range from bronze to white and even a few pebble beaches along the way. Go snorkeling along the coral reef and see all the beautiful wildlife that resides in the world below.
If you’re looking for a night out on the town while on vacation, you’re going to want to first hit whatever resort you’re staying in first; some will have Broadway productions and even local shows that you won’t be able to find anywhere else! Have it all with an Oahu resort vacation.
Summer temperatures range from 85 to 87°F, with night time lows of 70 to 74°F. Winter temperatures range from 70 to 74°F, with night time lows from 65 to 69°F.
ACTIVITIES IN HAWAII-OAHU
Oahu offers a rich variety of activities. Think of all the fun of New York nightlife, mixed with the natural beauty of the country just a few miles outside of the resort area of Waikiki; this gives ample opportunities for exploration and relaxation alike. Here you can windsurf and body board across the broad waves, snorkel along ship and plane wrecks from World War 2, and go horseback riding across the sandy white beaches of Oahu.
All of these are great activities, but there’s much more! You can go Sea Kayaking across the bay, take submarine and glass bottom boat tours through the half of Oahu that’s underwater and explore the sea life like manta rays and dolphins that swim happily around the island. See whales and tropical fish and go snorkeling along the coral reef, and of course go parasailing above the bays for a beautiful view from above. All of this is yours for the taking when you choose Oahu for your vacation.
Oahu Excursions
Excursions, or planned trips and activities, are put on by different companies and the all inclusive resort hotels. Windsurfing is popular, along with surfing and body-boarding. You can also go snorkeling and diving along the shipwrecks from world war 2, and even see the planes down in the deep. Go out and ride on horseback along the beach at sunrise and sunset, but remember it can get hot on the beach so bring water with you! With all of the state parks, you can go out and take a beautiful hike and see a great view of the island and some of the others, depending on the time of day. Kayaking in the sea is a lot different than kayaking in the river, and you can go along the tiny sanctuary islands where nature remains untouched (these are restricted areas, so don’t go beyond the beach!). One more thing to do while in Oahu for your destination wedding is to take a tour of the tropical farms and eat fresh pineapple, see how macadamia nuts are grown, and see how Hawaiian culture and life has evolved from their island farms.
Oahu Beaches
Beaches range from extraordinary and free, to secluded and private. Some of the all inclusive resort hotels will own certain beaches, but you can easily get a pass for the day and visit all the beaches Oahu has to offer. Kailua Beach Park has great swimming for beginners and better swimming for advanced swimmers out towards the ocean. Kahana Bay Beach Park has a beach cove where you can enjoy seclusion under shady palms.
Oahu Dining
Dining in Oahu ranges from cheap pancake breakfasts at the Galaxy Steak House to Gaan Sushi where you can get authentic sushi food in an atmosphere that screams star treatment. No matter what your budget is, you’ll find something great here to eat. If you’re coming down off a night of partying, or just need coffee, Zippy’s is great; try the chili over fries! If you’re craving seafood, you should head on over to the Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood Co, where you can get spicy garlic butter shrimp, surf and turn, Mahi Mahi, and crab legs that you get to crack yourself!
If you’ve ever wanted to try a real Hawaiian burger, head on over to Duke’s where you can get drinks and live entertainment as well as good burgers that cater to vegetarians too! Lu Lu’s is a good sports bar with an open air grill that keeps the feeling of the place festive, and you’ll have a great view of the ocean too. One of the best places to eat in Oahu is the Top of Waikiki restaurant where you can eat in style atop Hawaii’s only revolving restaurant and see a view that most can only get from movies! When you come to Oahu for your destination wedding, you’ll find a lot of options that span any budget, and you’ll always have a great time exploring too.
Oahu Seafood
One of the great things about visiting Oahu is the huge variety of seafood here that is both fresh and delicious! If you’ve ever had fish in mainland America, you’ve never experienced the freshness that a Hawaiian destination wedding can afford you. From fresh Mahi-Mahi to shrimp and tapas, you’ll be able to have all your seafood dreams come true. Another thing to look out for is the abundance of restaurants here that will ship in Maine and Caribbean lobster tails that are dipped in butter, fried on a grill, mixed into creative dishes that you just have to try! Surf and turf is the plate de jour on the island, and each restaurant will have its own take on it so be sure to try it at least once or twice! One important thing to note is that if you’re staying at an all-inclusive resort, be sure to try their lobster so you can eat for free!
Beachside Foods in Oahu
Along the beaches of Oahu, you’ll find many different tiny restaurants, bars and grills as well as shacks and food trucks that cater to just about any taste under the sun. These will usually run you a lot less than the more tourist trafficked restaurants, and you’ll be able to try a large variety of foods from ramen (saimen) with fresh vegetables and meat, to Hawaiian burgers and even fresh pizza that you can eat by the slice right on the beach with beautiful views of the ocean.
Dining in Oahu is a great experience, and will give you the best run for your money when you choose it for your destination wedding. How many places can you get fresh seafood while you watch fire eaters perform live in the middle of the restaurant?
Oahu Nightlife
Nightlife in Oahu is filled with tropical drinks, Polynesian live entertainment, and of course nightclubs where you can dance until dawn. When you come to Oahu for your destination wedding, you’ll never be disappointed with the huge variety of entertainment that appeals to just about every taste! From wonderful off-Broadway shows like Stomp, to the Jazz festivals and the different live music acts that are live Vegas on the beach. If you’re looking for nightclubs, you’ll find many that dot the beach all over the island; enjoy a variety of music from American, European house, Caribbean (Reggae and Soca), and of course classic Hawaiian, with dance floors that range from lit by LEDs to warehouses that have been converted into party paradises.
See a Show in Oahu
Live entertainment is everywhere on the island, you just have to look for it. From traditional Polynesian dancers who do hula and eat fire, to luaus where you can eat a roasted pig and enjoy Hawaiian singers entertain you through the evening. If you want live music, you can go to the Aloha Tower Marketplace and enjoy all kinds of music that changes nightly. Broadway shows, the Hawaii Symphony, Theater and others will give you something great to just relax to or dance until dawn. Enjoy the brilliance of Oahu nightlife, with all the glitz of Polynesian, Caribbean, American and Pan Pacific influences that make it a real place to either relax or explore.
Oahu Clubs and Music
There are many clubs throughout Oahu that make going out a real adventure. From the celebrity impersonators in the south to large mega clubs attached to the all-inclusive resorts, you’ll always find somewhere to party all night long. The Gordon Biersch Brewery has jazz and island music, along with rhythm and blues; almost every night there’s another act running so be sure you check it out. Most of the good clubs are in Waikiki Beach, so be sure you go out there and check things out! Nick’s fish market is a great lounge where you can relax on luxurious cushions and enjoy the evening with colorful drinks and friendly faces everywhere. The Honolulu Club has Jazz music, where you can look out at a scenic view of the Honolulu skyline and enjoy a long night with jazz and martinis. Make sure you also go see the Paradise Lounge, so you can go hula dancing and enjoy the beachside bar and a good bonfire.
Nightlife in Oahu is as beautiful as it is exotic; it’s still an American city so there are no special customs that you need to enjoy, other than picking up your own trash off the beach and to be as friendly to everyone around you just like you would your own neighbors. Stroll along the beach and join in a bonfire, go see live Hulu dancers and of course make sure you attend a luau when you arrive! When you go to Oahu for your destination wedding, the nightlife is always bouncing, the views are great, and the drinks are as deep and beautiful as the Pacific around the island!
