Cozumel is a beautiful Caribbean island with beautiful white beaches, sky blue waters, and so much to offer. Many islands in the Caribbean are quite expensive, but since Cozumel is part of Mexico, you’ll get great prices on a lot of fun things to do! In Cozumel, you can go on many tours that will take you around to the best scuba spots for diving trips; if you’re not big on diving deep into the water, you can go snorkeling along the reefs or enjoy a dolphin excursion where you play with dolphins out in the open water! Glass bottom boat tours will take you through the Caribbean and allow you to see the ocean without getting wet; remember whenever you’re out in the water to bring bottled water with you so you don’t get dehydrated. Mini-submarine tours allow you to go under the water and get an up close and personal view of the coral reefs and if you wear glasses it can help you have a real view that you wouldn’t be able to have otherwise. Deep sea fishing is also available, and of course you can lounge on the beaches of Playa Palancar and Paradise Beach.
Get in the Cozumel Waters
The waters of Cozumel are ripe for adventure and relaxation. First off, you should check out the different excursions offered by the all-inclusive resort hotels. You can find many different things to do here like sailing on a catamaran, swimming in the open ocean with dolphins, and of course the sub marine tours. You can also schedule excursions through the different adventure companies, but you’ll usually get a better deal with the resorts so check with them first and shop around.
If you’d rather just go swimming, you can in the calm seas along the barrier reefs; take care to not touch the reefs themselves, as they can be quite sharp. Here you will see many kinds of tropical fish, sea anemones, and manta rays.
Play in the Cozumel Sun
The beaches provide a great way to enjoy yourself in Cozumel; they’re great for beach wedding and just lounging, and make for a good destination wedding choice. Here you’ll find two main beaches on the island that are worth visiting: Playa Palancar and Paradise Beach. Playa Palancar is free and has sandy white beaches with plenty of room to roam around on your own. Paradise Beach has a fee for entry, but there are patio chairs and other furniture with shade umbrellas. Each has its own charm, so be sure to check them out! Besides this, you’ll also find that you can go horseback riding across the beach (be sure to try this around sunset when the sun kisses the water goodbye for the day) and into the lush green areas. There are driving tours you can take, as well as shopping excursions and having fun exploring the town centers and of course the markets.
COZUMEL DINING
When you come to Cozumel for your vacation, you want to make sure you’re finding the best eats available on the island. Here you’ll find great locally owned restaurants with food that’s fresh, never frozen. Choose from beach bars like Alberto’s where you can eat freshly caught seafood like mahi-mahi and eat right on the beach, or go for the open air grills where you can watch your food being prepared right before your eyes. Many restaurants here will have a sea theme, but El Capi Navigante is one of the oldest restaurants on the island and will light your dessert on fire (literally!). La Cocay, or the Firefly, has inventive dishes with fantastic presentation and a laidback atmosphere. No vacation honeymoon in Cozumel would be complete without a visit to Kinta, where you can enjoy Latin-French fusion cuisine in a romantic atmosphere with lit candles and friendly staff. Dining in Cozumel is a great way to get out and explore the island without getting wet or sunburnt, so be sure you try all the restaurants that lie around the downtown area and along the shore. Each one has its secrets that you should explore!
Seafood
The crown jewel of any vacation meal in Cozumel is fresh seafood. Pepe’s Grill has surf and turf that’s quite good and La Choza has great Mexican style seafood that will make you feel at home. Alberto’s Beach Bar has great food but is a little out of the way; you’ll have to walk about a mile to a mile and a half to get to it from Playa Palancar.
Fusion
Casa Mission has authentic style Mexican food, served out of a large Colonial Mexican home; with gardens, birds and great food, it’s one of the best places you can taste real Mexican food on the island. Kinta has French and Latin fusion food that you can’t miss out on, and Prima Trattoria is a great Northern Italian restaurant that goes more on the savory side than you might expect with sweet Italian you’ve eaten in the U.S. Rolandi’s is more Italian food on the island with some takes on tapas and other desserts.
Resorts
All of the resorts have their own restaurants that you can explore. If you have an all-inclusive package for your vacation, you can get your meals for free at that resort, and you won’t have your activities budget eaten up by trying new cuisines! Enjoy fine a la carte dining (order what you like) and eat for free! From fusion cuisine to fresh seafood, you’ll find good eats no matter what you try.
Dining in Cozumel is an adventure all by itself. You’ll find here a great variety of different foods, tastes and textures to explore, and with the great prices you’ll find here you won’t have to worry about sticking to the tiny seafood shacks by the shore. When you come to Cozumel for a vacation, you’ll find all the tastes of the Caribbean and Mexico blended into one!
COZUMEL NIGHTLIFE
Nightlife in Cozumel ranges from delicious tequila bars with vast stores to explore, to fun clubs where you can dance the night away. Most of the places here have cute names like “No Name Cigar Bar”, “Reef Bar”, or “Wet Wendy’s”. With a vibrant Latin influence, as well as all the fun a Caribbean holiday can provide, Cozumel gives you a great place to let loose while on your vacation. Beyond the bars and nightclubs, you’ll find sports bars and also Los Delfines where you can see celebrity impersonators on the weekend (Thurs.-Sun). There’s a Hard Rock Café by the municipal pier, and a great place to stop on the way to explore different parts of the local scene. Buskers and street performers will dot the promenade along the shore during the day and in the early evening, so be sure you check it out! No matter how you spend your nights in Cozumel, you’ll find a full rich nightlife that has a little something for everyone.
Explore the Quirky Side
One of the best spots for nightlife in Cozumel is Senor Frogs; here you can have a great time in a quirky atmosphere with a live DJ spinning great music and colorful drinks. What makes Senor Frogs the best in town is the fact that instead of sitting on a barstool, here you get to sit on a tire swing and enjoy your drink in a whole new way! This bar puts the play back into nightlife, and you can’t miss it.
Clubs and Bars
The 1.5 Tequila Bar and Lounge offers a fun atmosphere with great music, here you’ll find locals and visitors alike throughout the dance floor and at the bar. The No Name Cigar Bar has a good selection of cigars with prices that are a little bit above normal, but you’ll find a good range of expats and others who are extremely friendly to new comers. The Reef Bar is a good diving bar where you can hang out at the end of the day and find out where all the best dive spots are, and they have really cheap domestic and foreign beers too! Finally, Wet Wendy’s is an American bar with generous margaritas, their own brand of tequila, and of course great service and prices. Different resorts will have their own clubs that you can try out, and if you’re a guest of that hotel you get your drinks free! These will usually be more mainstream clubs with a tropical theme but still a fun place to visit.
Drinks on the Beach
Many of the all-inclusive resort hotels have beachside waiter service where you can drink in four poster canopied beach beds with colorful drinks that never go empty. The great thing about an all-inclusive resort is that you get all your meals and drinks free, so be sure to take full advantage of it!
