Big Island Vacations

The Big Island is what people instantly imagine when they think of Hawaii. The largest of the islands (obviously, hence the name!), you’ll get the biggest range of experiences here. First you’ll want to go to Mauna Kea with its black sand beaches and the volcanic national park that transports you to a totally alien land. You can fly high above the volcano in a helicopter, seeing the fury of nature and delighting in its majestic beauty. Eco-tours are a huge thing here, and you’ll be able to go cave spelunking and climb the cliffs, or just lounge about on the beaches themselves. Your vacation to the Big Island can be as laid back or as adventurous as you want it to be, but to find the best stuff you’re going to have to get out there and explore.

Visit Big Island

Climb an Active Volcano!

Like mentioned above, you can climb a real volcano, or just fly above it! Go enjoy some of the wading pools in the tropical rainforest, or enjoy the beautiful private beaches that come in some of the best colors. There are plantation tours where you can see how sugar cane has been harvested here for generations, eat fresh pineapple and buy macadamia nuts on the cheap! If you’re looking for fun in the water, look no further than the Big Island, you’ll be able to find tons of it here. The best surfing outside of Oahu is here, and you’ll be able to catch good waves in Kona. If you’ve ever wanted to try snorkeling, go out to the Kapoho Tide Pools where colorful fish play. Dolphin excursions, or where you play out in the open water with dolphins, are available with many resorts and different excursion companies that dot the coast; this generally gives you about half an hour out in the open water swimming and playing with dolphins.

A Veritable Feast

On the Big Island you’ll find great food at great prices. Each resort will have its own fine dining options, but you’ll also be able to walk or take a taxi to some world class restaurants by the sea. If you’re hunting for a deal, take a dinner cruise for some beautiful sights only accessible by boat; here you can watch for the “green flash” that appears as the sun sets over the horizon, or lava fall into the sea for a beautiful view at night.

Dance with Fire

Nightlife on the Big Island isn’t just about hot night clubs with glass dancefloors, here you’ll be able to watch fire breathers and dancers right on the beach; it’s a sight not to be missed! Different resort hotels will have their own clubs, and if you’re here on an all-inclusive resort package you won’t have to pay to drink or have a good time!

The Big Island is a paradise for those who want a little adventure, great photos and a good time. Why settle for anything less when everything’s already here?

The average day-time temperatures in the coastal areas range from the mid-80s in the summer months, to the mid to low 70s in the winter months.

Hawaii-The Big Island Dining

Dining on the Big Island has a great selection of Asian, International, Continental (European), American and of course Polynesian cuisine and dishes that it can be hard to figure out where you should eat that night! When you’re looking for the best destination wedding, you want to make sure that you’ll have this variety so you can get the most of your time; as you can see, there’s a lot to eat here, and you won’t break your budget so you can eat out every night (or just get room service) and experience all that Hawaii has to offer. Remember, the Luau is the epitome of Hawaiian dining, and you can’t miss it! Unlike many other island nations, you’ll find that Hawaii has a plentiful supply of cattle, fish, and produce that come together to put creative and inventive dishes on your plate that you might not be able to eat just one of! From upscale wine bars with the best French dishes you’ve ever had, to oceanfront restaurants that specialize in delicious fresh seafood and locally sourced produce that will make you wonder why food can’t taste this delicious all the time. If you’ve never had a pineapple fresh before, be sure you try one in one of the many decadent desserts that are served throughout the island!

Local Favorites

There are many local Hawaiian restaurants that have prime real estate right on the beach, but give generous portions at great prices. The best local restaurants are in Kona and Hilo, and these are usually where the all-inclusive resorts are, so you won’t have to travel very far! When you’re on the Big Island for your destination wedding, you have to try out Kona Beach restaurant, where you can have a view of Kamakahonu Bay and enjoy a romantic ambience that is really unmatched! Akoni’s is also along the seaside, and serve all day long so you can watch the sun rise and set over the bay with delicious meals that might tempt you to splurge a little

Resort Dining

The all-inclusive wedding and honeymoon packages always include meals, so it’s a good idea to try out what restaurants are in your resort! Here you can enjoy fine al a carte dining with many kinds of cuisine, luau nights where you can eat a fresh roast pig with the apple in his mouth just like you’ve seen in the movies, you can even grab a Hawaiian style BBQ burger or pizza and don’t forget the Ahi Tuna! The resorts also offer vegetarian options, so be sure to check them out if you’re not big on a huge variety of meat and would rather eat something with a smaller environmental impact.

Dining on the Big Island in Hawaii is always a great experience, when you’re here for your destination wedding you’ll find friendly faces, people dedicated to service, and one of the most romantic places on earth to enjoy a meal! Enjoy luxurious food, inventive island dishes, and all the seafood you could ever want to eat, all in one place!

Hawaii-The Big Island Nightlife

The Big Island of Hawaii isn’t just a place to visit during the day! With a vibrant Polynesian nightlife melded with pacific and American influences, you’ll find just about everything you could possibly ever want to do at night here, and maybe something you didn’t even know you could do! One of the major attractions is fire; fire runs everything here at night from the firewalkers who walk across hot coals (you can too!), poi or fire dancers who do magical things with tethered fire that zooms through the night, and of course the volcanoes that erupt at night on the Martian landscape of the national park lands. While there’s a lot of fire, it’s completely safe and these arts have been practiced for thousands of years! Aside from this, you can enjoy one of the exciting festivals, hula dancers and live Hawaiian entertainment and even stargazing atop Maunakea where many observatories take in deep space views of the night sky.

Enjoy the Heat

Heat and fire have crafted this island into something beautiful that must be enjoyed. From the green and blue sands that dot the coastlines, the rugged landscape that is unearthly surrounding the volcano, and even the volcano itself, you’ll find fire is everywhere. Hawaiians have tamed it over time into a tool of enjoyment (poi) and necessity (delicious barbeque.) Each of the all-inclusive resort hotels on the island have their own fire excursions, from walking the volcanic rock at night to flying right over the top of the volcano itself at night, you’ll find something that helps you appreciate the powerful force that has shaped this island into the paradise that we enjoy today.

Take a Cruise

There are many cruises around sunset that run around the island, and it’s a great way to see it from a new angle while you’re here for your destination wedding. Take an illuminated glass bottom boat cruise at night, seeing jellyfish come alive in the dark, or take a sunset island cruise and be treated to dinner and luxury riding around in a beautiful catamaran for an hour or even three! There are Lava Ocean Adventures where you can watch the lava from Kilauea flow right into the sea, steam and eventually cool. Even today, the island builds up and breaks down right before our very eyes, and a sunset and night time cruise is ideal for couples on their destination wedding trip or honeymoon!

Live Entertainment

Live entertainment abounds on the Big Island; here you can enjoy many different festivals throughout the year, live hula dancers, fire eaters, and a huge variety of live music all over the island. When you’re choosing your destination wedding, you want to know that you’re getting the best value, and you want to make sure you’ll have memories that you’ll cherish for a lifetime. With all of the natural beauty, excitement, and relaxation that a Hawaiian Big Island wedding gives you, it makes a great choice for any couple!
