Radisson Resort Vacations
The Radisson name comes from legendary French explorer Pierrre-Esprit Radisson, who as a 17th-century fur trader mapped much of what is today southern Canada and the northern United States. The first Radisson hotel opened in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Seventh Street in 1909. Labeled “the finest hotel between Chicago and the West Coast” at the time of its dedication, the property quickly became the epicenter for the burgeoning city’s cultural elite. The chain gained several properties over the years, before being purchased by businessman Curt Carlson in 1962. Over the years the Carlson hotels group would undergo an impressive expansion, opening and acquiring hotels all over the world. Of particular note are the Edwardian Hotels of London, a group of 14 classic lodgings concentrated in the historic areas of London. Carlson would also join forces with the SAS hotel group during the 1980’s, creating the Radisson SAS partnership and see a number of famous European properties operating under the Radisson brand.
Operating today as the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, the chain has received an impressive collection of awards. TripAdvisor has bestowed its Certificate of Excellence to several Radisson hotels, including Denmark, Jordan, and Berlin. The Irish Awards voted Radisson the Best International Hotel Group, and parent company Carlson Rezidor collected 14 awards at the 2015 World Travel Awards for Europe. Additionally, the chain’s loyalty program, Club Carlson, won two awards at the Loyalty Awards 2015.
