Enjoy the Marinarium Snorkeling Cruise in Punta Cana

Most of us are becoming increasingly conscious of the impact that our lives and our actions have on the delicate balance Mother Nature strives so hard to maintain. Traveling is no different – the carbon footprint from a jet setting trip across the continents can have a significant impact on the environment. That is where companies that encourage and facilitate responsible travel and adventure like Marinarium come in. Situated in Cabeza de Toro between Bavaro and Punta Cana, Marinarium’s mission is to educate visitors and locals alike of both the wonders and the fragility of the natural environment. They re-invest the money from eco-tourism back into environmental education and conservation.

One of their most popular programs is the Punta Cana snorkeling cruise. This half-day excursion lets you share the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea with nurse sharks and stingrays! Ideal for singles, couples, families and groups, the snorkeling cruise starts off from a private pier which makes the embarkation and disembarkation process crowd-free and hassle-free. Marinarium also provides convenient pick-up from and drop-off to all the hotels in the area. From there it only gets better: you will be transported to the exclusive 9.5 acre designated marine park on a glass-bottomed catamaran. Get comfortable and familiar with the marine life even before you get your feet wet!

The catamaran is a double decker which gives everyone ample space to enjoy the breeze and the fantastic views for which the Caribbean is renowned. Snacks, soft drinks and bottled water are available from the team of friendly, cheerful staff. When you arrive at the beautiful, serene marine park, they will help you with the snorkeling equipment that is included as part of the package. All participants are divided into beginner and advanced groups to ensure that each person gets the right balance of attention and freedom to explore for maximum enjoyment and safety. Slip into the crystal clear waters and immerse yourself in the gorgeous underwater wonderland.

The sharks and stingrays are kept in large underwater cages to ensure the safest experience for both them and the visiting humans. The stingrays have their barbs removed. There is an abundance of other colorful fish but mainly outside of the caged areas. Trained staff members are always in the water to watch out for anyone who might find themselves ‘out of their depth’. After the visit to the underwater zoo, you are taken to a low sandbar where the water is just waist deep. Here, the bar is opened and everyone is free to explore the shallow water or dance the rest of the afternoon away. The staff always get full marks for their friendliness.

The Dominican Republic is warm all year round. However, it is best to avoid the June to November hurricane season which can see some big waves. The March to May summer season is best for exploring the wonderful oasis of marine life that is Marinarium.
