Cartagena, Colombia is a fishing village off the northern Caribbean coast of Colombia. It is a bustling port city with a population of almost nine hundred thousand people, categorizing it as the fifth-largest city in the entire country. Cartagena is a city with a rich and vibrant history and culture. It was officially founded by European explorers almost five hundred years ago in 1533 but has been settled by indigenous peoples since before 4000 B.C.

Cartagena’s climate is fairly mild; the city is located within a tropical region and has especially rainy weather in the months of May, June, October, and November. However, the weather in the city can also get hot even during the rainiest seasons. The best times to visit Cartagena are during the spring months of March and April. During this period, the rainy season has not yet hit the city in full force and the weather settles within the mid-seventies and eighties throughout the day. The city is filled with beautiful, ancient colonial architecture that gives visitors a glimpse of what the city looked like at its height as an economic and political hub multiple hundreds of years ago.
